Sub-Zero Refrigerator Repair
A Sub-Zero refrigerator that stops holding temperature puts hundreds of dollars of food at risk — and built-in units cannot simply be rolled out and swapped. Wolf & Viking Service repairs Sub-Zero refrigerators throughout the South Bay, typically with a same-day or next-day appointment, and every completed repair is backed by a 1-year warranty, up to 2 years on select repairs. Call (310) 361-3551 to schedule.
Symptoms we're called for
- Refrigerator section warm while the freezer still works (or vice versa)
- Temperature swinging or drifting upward over days
- Condensation or water pooling inside the cabinet or on the floor
- Unit running constantly and never cycling off
- Service warning or error code on the display
- Spoiled food despite a normal-looking temperature setting
What the repair involves
Sub-Zero refrigerators keep the fresh-food and freezer sections on separate cooling circuits, so one side can fail while the other seems fine — a detail that confuses a lot of general repair services. Our technicians, with 10+ years of experience, work on the full refrigeration path: evaporator fans, condenser maintenance, control diagnostics, air and water filters, and full sealed-system work when a compressor or evaporator is at fault. We repair built-ins in place, working with the unit inside your cabinetry. A recent example: a sealed-system repair on a Sub-Zero refrigerator in Manhattan Beach, completed in five hours in the customer's home.
Every Sub-Zero generation, not just the current ones
We service the full Sub-Zero built-in line — if it carries the badge, we work on it. Sub-Zero carried the same core engineering across decades of models, which is why a technician who knows the platform can diagnose a thirty-year-old unit as confidently as a new one. These are the families we see week to week:
- 500 series — decades old and still fully serviceable. Parts remain available, and the faults are ordinary: cold controls, fans, gaskets, drains (a 561 that kept shutting itself off).
- 600 series — the long-running generation behind most of the Sub-Zero units still in South Bay kitchens. Dual refrigeration keeps each compartment on its own sealed system, so one side can fail while the other runs normally (two columns, two entirely different faults).
- 700 series — integrated and panel-ready installs. A blocked condenser on these runs the compressor hot for years before anything obvious breaks (what that looks like).
- Built-In (BI) series — the over-and-under and side-by-side columns that followed the 600s. We service them from filter changes through full sealed-system work (a BI-series maintenance visit).
- PRO series — the glass-door professional units, where a temperature swing shows on the shelf immediately (an inspection on a PRO 48).
Age alone is never our reason to recommend replacement. Door gaskets, drains, fans, cold controls, sensors, boards and sealed systems are all replaceable on these platforms — one Palos Verdes Estates owner had already been told to replace a unit that needed a gasket and a cleared drain (that job).
If you know your model number, tell us when you book — it lets the technician arrive with the likely part already on the van.
Safe checks before you call
Safe things to try before booking:
- Check that the breaker has not tripped and the unit is getting power.
- Inspect the door seal — a gasket that does not fully seat lets warm air in and looks like a cooling failure.
- Review the panel settings; make sure the set temperature was not bumped.
- Make sure interior vents are not blocked by tightly packed food.
- If the manual shows how, clean the accessible condenser grille — dust there is a common cause of weak cooling.
- Note any error code exactly as displayed.
Repair or replace?
Because a built-in Sub-Zero is fitted to your cabinetry — often with custom panels — replacement involves far more than the price of a new unit. In most cases a specific, diagnosed repair restores the refrigerator for a fraction of that, and our warranty covers the work afterward. We will tell you plainly if we think a repair is not worth it; the quote comes before any work, with no hidden fees.
Every completed repair is covered by our written warranty — 1 year by default, up to 2 years on select repairs. Warranty details.

Questions about this repair
Do you repair built-in Sub-Zero refrigerators without removing them?
Yes — the large majority of repairs, including sealed-system work, are done with the unit in place in your kitchen. If a repair ever required something more involved, you would know before approving the quote.
One section is cold and the other is warm. Is that one repair or two?
Sub-Zero uses separate cooling circuits for the refrigerator and freezer sections, so one can fail independently. Diagnosis will pinpoint which circuit — and which component in it — is at fault, and the quote covers exactly that repair.
What information helps when I book?
Tell us what the unit is doing, when it started, and any code on the display. That lets the technician arrive with the right parts more often, which raises the odds of a single-visit repair. You will get a text 20–40 minutes before arrival.
Is the repair guaranteed?
Yes. Completed repairs carry a 1-year warranty by default, and select repairs are covered for up to 2 years.
