Sub-Zero Ice Maker Repair
When a Sub-Zero ice maker slows down, stops, or starts producing ice that tastes off, the cause is usually one of a short list of fixable problems — and rarely a reason to live without ice. Wolf & Viking Service repairs Sub-Zero ice makers and replaces air and water filters throughout the South Bay, with same-day or next-day appointments. Call (310) 361-3551 or book online any time.
Symptoms we're called for
- No ice at all, or production down to a few cubes a day
- Small, hollow, or misshapen cubes
- Ice with a stale taste or odor
- Cloudy ice when it used to be clear
- Ice maker cycling but not dropping ice into the bin
- Water not reaching the ice maker
What the repair involves
Ice quality problems and ice quantity problems have different roots. Bad taste or cloudiness almost always traces to a water filter past its service life — sometimes an air filter, too — while low or no production points at the water supply, the fill system, or the ice maker mechanism itself. We service all of it: the ice maker assembly, water and air filter replacement, and the temperature side of the equation, since an ice maker in a compartment that is running warm will underperform no matter how healthy the mechanism is. Diagnosis comes first, then a clear quote with no hidden fees, then the repair — covered by a 1-year warranty.
Safe checks before you call
Two minutes of safe checks can occasionally save you the visit:
- Check the control panel — Sub-Zero ice makers can be switched off from the controls, and it happens more often than you would think.
- Confirm the unit has power and the breaker is on.
- Make sure the freezer door closes and seals fully; a warm compartment slows ice production.
- Check that nothing in the bin or compartment is physically jamming the mechanism, without disassembling anything.
- Note when the water filter was last changed — if you cannot remember, that alone is a strong clue.
Every completed repair is covered by our written warranty — 1 year by default, up to 2 years on select repairs. Warranty details.

Questions about this repair
My ice tastes bad. Do I need a repair or just a filter?
Often just the filter — taste and odor issues usually mean the water filter (and sometimes the air filter) is overdue. We stock and replace both, and if the technician finds the filters are fine, the diagnosis continues on the same visit until the real cause is found.
Is it worth repairing the ice maker, or should the whole unit be replaced?
An ice maker fault is almost never a reason to replace a built-in Sub-Zero. The ice maker is a serviceable component within the unit, and repairing or replacing that component restores full function at a small fraction of what a new appliance would cost.
How often should Sub-Zero filters be changed?
Follow the schedule in your owner's manual — and if you are past it, or unsure, we can replace the air and water filters during any service visit. Many customers pair filter replacement with a repair appointment so it is handled in one trip.
