Sub-Zero Freezer Repair
A failing freezer is a race against the clock — once the temperature climbs, everything inside is on a timer. Wolf & Viking Service repairs Sub-Zero freezers across Manhattan Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Torrance, and Hermosa Beach, with same-day or next-day appointments so you lose as little as possible. Call (310) 361-3551.
Symptoms we're called for
- Freezer temperature slowly climbing over days or weeks
- Heavy frost or ice sheets forming on walls or around the evaporator area
- Ice cream soft, or frozen food partially thawing and refreezing
- Freezer runs loudly or the fan sounds labored
- EC40, EC50, or Service warning appearing on the panel
- Freezer fine at first, then warm after the door was left ajar
What the repair involves
The failure pattern matters. A freezer that dies overnight usually points to a different fault than one that loses a degree a week — the slow drift is the classic signature of a refrigerant leak or an evaporator problem, while sudden warmth is more often a fan or control fault. We diagnose the actual cause rather than guessing: evaporator fans, condenser maintenance, compressors, and complete sealed-system repairs are all within scope. In Rancho Palos Verdes we recently repaired a Sub-Zero freezer sealed system with a refrigerant leak — a seven-hour job, finished with a written warranty. You get the diagnosis and a firm quote first; no hidden fees.
Safe checks before you call
While you wait for the appointment, it is safe to:
- Confirm power at the breaker — a tripped circuit is the cheapest fix there is.
- Check that the freezer door or drawer closes completely and the gasket seals; a package can hold it ajar just enough to build frost.
- Look at the control panel for a changed setpoint or an error code, and write the code down.
- Make sure air vents inside are not buried under frozen goods.
- Keep the door closed as much as possible — a full, closed freezer holds temperature for a surprisingly long time.
Every completed repair is covered by our written warranty — 1 year by default, up to 2 years on select repairs. Warranty details.
Questions about this repair
Should I empty the freezer before the technician arrives?
Keep it closed and full until the visit — that preserves cold best. If the contents are already thawing, move what matters most to a cooler with ice. The technician will tell you if anything needs to come out for the repair itself.
Why is ice building up inside my Sub-Zero freezer?
Frost usually means moist air is getting in (a door or gasket issue) or the defrost cycle is not doing its job. Both are diagnosable in a single visit, and the fixes are very different — which is why we identify the cause before quoting.
How fast can you get here? My food is thawing.
We book same-day or next-day appointments whenever possible. Phone lines and online booking are open 24 hours Monday through Friday and Saturday 9 AM–3 PM (closed Sunday), and you will get a text 20–40 minutes before the technician arrives.
Is a freezer sealed-system repair covered by your warranty?
Yes. Every completed repair carries a 1-year warranty by default, and select repairs — sealed-system work among the candidates — can be covered for up to 2 years. Your invoice states the exact term.
