How to prepare a premium appliance for a service visit

The short answer

Note the symptom, when it started and any error code on the display; clear access to the appliance and, for refrigeration, empty what will be in the way; have the model number ready if you can reach it safely; and mention gate codes or building access when you book. Preparation is what turns a diagnostic visit into a same-visit repair.

Before you book: what to write down

  • The symptom in plain terms. 'Freezer holds, refrigerator drifts warm' is far more useful than 'not cooling'.
  • When it started, and what changed. After a power outage? After a cleaning? Gradually over weeks? Onset timing genuinely narrows the diagnosis.
  • Any code on the display. On Sub-Zero units especially — an EC40 or EC50 tells us where to look before we arrive (what those codes mean).
  • Sounds and smells. Clicking, humming, a thump at ignition, gas odor. If you smell gas, say so when you call — that changes our urgency.
  • The model number, if it is safely reachable. Usually on a plate inside the door frame or behind the grille. Do not move a built-in unit to find it.

Telling us the brand, appliance and symptom when booking means the technician often arrives with the likely part already on the van.

On the day: clearing the way

  • Refrigeration: empty the compartment that is failing, or at least the shelves and door bins nearest the suspect area. Have a cooler ready if a longer repair is possible.
  • Ranges and cooktops: clear the cooktop and counters beside it, remove anything stored in the oven, and leave the grates in place so we see them as they were.
  • All appliances: clear a path from the door, and secure pets somewhere quiet — technicians carry tools and open panels.

What not to do before we arrive

Resist the urge to 'reset everything'. Unplugging a unit, clearing a code or reseating parts can erase exactly the evidence that identifies the fault. One exception: if you smell gas, shut off the supply if you can do so safely and call us — do not use the appliance.

Access details worth mentioning when you book

Gate codes, guard-list entries, building elevators, parking restrictions and steep driveways. Several of the communities we serve across the Palos Verdes Peninsula are gated, and telling us at booking is what keeps an appointment on schedule.

What to expect from us

A text 20–40 minutes before arrival, a proper diagnosis, and a clear quote before any repair work begins — no hidden fees. Completed repairs carry a 1-year warranty, up to 2 years on select repairs, and we install OEM parts. See how our service works or book a visit.

Reviewed by our technical team. This guide describes safe owner-level checks only; refrigerant, gas and electrical work must be left to a professional.
